Wood pellet machine ( Pellet Extruder ) can be divided into flat die type and ring die type. Flat die pellet machine can be further divided into die-turning type and roller turning type. Generally, die –turning pellet machines are more suitable for small scale pellet production and roller turning types are capable for relatively large production.

Die-turning Pellet Mill: The press roller is fixed while the pellet die is rotatable driven by the principal axis.
Roller –turning Pellet Mill: The pellet die is fixed while the press roller is rotatable.

Working Principles of Flat Die Pellet Extruder

When starts the pellet extruder machine, the motor will driven the principal axis through the gear box. Since the die is driven by the principal axis, the flat die will starts rotating and the press roller will rolling on the die surface. As the die rotating, when raw materials are fed into the pellet extruder and fall on the pellet die, they will be extruded through the pellet die holes by the roller. The raw materials will be pressed and discharged into cylindrical shape and then be cut into pellets with certain length by the slicer.
The flat die compression ratio differs as the raw material varies. Different materials have different bulk density and lignose content. So the compression ratio should be adjusted depending on specific raw materials to achieve the best pelletizing result.
